Modern technologies in biogas plants – practical applications and analysis of development prospects in the Polish context

The aim of this study is to present the current state of biogas technologies in Poland and to assess the potential for implementing modern methods of biogas production, purification, and utilization. The analysis revealed that wet fermentation installations operating under mesophilic conditions predominate in Poland, while the produced biogas is primarily used in cogeneration processes, generating electricity and heat simultaneously. In contrast, biogas upgrading and biomethane production technologies are still developing to a limited extent. The results indicate that further development of the sector requires the expansion of gas infrastructure, legislative support, and the implementation of efficient and economically viable biogas purification technologies.
