Abstract

120 times a year. At the same time, the water flowing from taps in Polish homes, according to data from the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, meets quality requirements in the vast majority of cases and is significantly cheaper than the most popular bottled water brands. Nevertheless, bottled water remains, for many consumers, synonymous with safety, convenience, and a predictable taste. The article compares both types of water, tap water and bottled water, across six dimensions: price, quality and control, health, the environment, convenience, and the rationality of choice. The article was prepared on the basis of current water tariffs in selected large Polish cities, retail price monitoring, national and EU legal acts, scientific publications analysing the life cycle, and data from the water utility operator in Częstochowa.
