The article discusses issues related to the formation of appropriate environmental conditions in archives and storage room of archival collections. Attention was drawn to two methods of determining them: conservation standards and analysis of the historical climate. Physico-chemical and biological threats to the archival collections and the types of damage were discussed. Recommended normative values of air parameters (temperature, relative humidity), allowable concentrations of air pollutants in library rooms and archives, as well as requirements for light intensity, were presented.
