Abstract

Two essential steps in sizing the gutter system are presented. One of them is the selection of rainfall intensity for which the system is designed, and the other is taking into account the impact of wind on the volume of rainwater runoff from roof surfaces. The first of these issues has not been discussed in the current standard PN-EN 12056-3, while the second has been only briefly mentioned. The selection of rainfall intensity for which the roof drainage system is chosen is crucial for any location of the building in question. On the other hand, the influence of wind is often not considered in flat areas, but as shown in the article, it can be very  significant in mountainous conditions. For windy weather, a proposal for calculating rainwater runoff from steeply pitched roofs is presented.
