This study reviews the most popular building certification systems in Poland in terms of reducing the negative impact on the natural environment – LEED, WELL and BREEAM. Certification systems were compared in terms of managing water resources in buildings, concluding that the LEED and BREEAM certification systems are focused mainly on quantitative and technical aspects, and the WELL system on the management of chemical and biological parameters of water. On the basis of available legal and scientific studies, the opportunities and threats for the development of building certification systems in Poland were reviewed.
