General Principles for Using AI Tools

The use of AI tools is becoming increasingly common, and if they are used in the preparation of an article, this fact must be declared in the article. The journal permits limited use of AI tools, but they cannot replace human judgment and critical thinking.

When using AI tools, special attention should be paid to:

- carefully assessing content generated by AI (e.g., checking sources that may have been fabricated),

- preparing a statement regarding the use of AI tools at the end of the article, before the reference section (a statement is not necessary when using AI for basic tasks, such as grammar checking),

- not including AI as an author or co-author of the publication.

Use of AI Tools by Authors

Authors may use AI tools to synthesize literature and identify research gaps and ideas, but these tools can never replace human critical thinking. All materials generated using AI must be reviewed and verified by the authors. Authors are solely responsible for the content contained in the article. The use of AI tools must be clearly and concisely declared and described in every aspect. Authors using AI tools must indicate the name of the tool used, the purpose and scope of its use. A section entitled "Declaration of the Use of AI Tools in the Preparation of the Article" should be placed before the References section. If AI tools were used in the research process, not just during the final preparation of the article, the scope of use should be clearly described in the Methods section of the article.

When preparing figures, AI tools may be used in a limited manner. AI tools may be used to prepare flowcharts, decision trees, conceptual diagrams, and diagrams. In each of these cases, the scope of use should be specified in the figure caption and in a statement at the end of the article. Figures depicting data may be prepared using AI tools provided only original data is used. Such figures must always be reviewed by a human. If data visualization tools are used, this must be described in the Methods section, clearly indicating the name of the tool. Any form of fabrication, enhancement, or extension of data is prohibited. Using AI tools for image editing (changing contrast, brightness, etc.) is prohibited. Such editing should be performed in graphics software designed for this purpose.

Use of AI Tools by Reviewers

Since the submitted article should be treated as a confidential document, reviewers should not upload all or part of the submitted article to AI tools. Because reviewing is a key element of the publishing process, artificial intelligence cannot replace the critical thinking and independent judgment of review participants. Reviewers are fully responsible for the content of the report.

Possible areas for the use of AI tools may include grammatical corrections in the report and, if applicable, suggested literature.

If AI tools are used, reviewers should specify at the end of the report how these tools were used and to what extent.

Use of AI Tools by the Editorial Office

As an editorial office, we do not use AI tools to support the publishing process.
